Abigail is passionate about all aspects of data privacy. She helps clients navigate the tricky regulatory terrain of data privacy to achieve their goals while enhancing stakeholder trust and de-risking the business. From data privacy to data strategy, she takes a commercial, risk-based approach that goes beyond compliance to develop robust, sustainable privacy programs that blend legal, technological and operational dimensions. She is also very involved with the privacy community in Canada and the UK as a speaker, writer, trainer and member of numerous committees.
From the C-suite to the Customer Service team, Abigail is comfortable working with people across the business, and externally with regulators, law enforcement and opposing counsel, in both French and English. She has helped draft responses to legislative and regulatory consultations and represented clients before multi-stakeholder committees, in disputes, and in contract negotiations. She regularly speaks, trains, and writes on privacy-related issues before a range of audiences.
Abigail brings a global perspective to her practice. She began her legal career as a commercial litigator in Montreal with an international law firm based in Canada before moving to India where she took on a number of law-adjacent and business development roles. On her return to Canada, she joined the in-house legal team of a Crown corporation in Ottawa as the Privacy, Access to Information and International Trade lead. She also assisted the client with disputes, regulatory matters and administrative law issues. She then moved to London, England where she taught senior executives of major brands about GDPR implementation at Henley Business School, and helped a portfolio of startups, microenterprises and scale-ups prepare for and implement GDPR, e-Privacy and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.
